2025 in Review: Interior Photography Highlights from Homes, Show Houses, and Editorial Projects

2025 was a year defined by intentional design, collaboration, and spaces that tell stories through texture, light, and mood. From high-profile show houses to intimate, personal interiors, each project captured reflects not just the design, but the atmosphere and emotion that make interiors feel alive.

As an interior photographer, this year was especially transformative: I made a big move from Waco to San Antonio, Texas. This relocation opened new opportunities to work closely with interior designers, builders, and creatives in a thriving design community. Being based in San Antonio allows for faster local access, more flexible scheduling, and on-site collaboration, making it easier for designers to capture their projects at the perfect moment in light and design readiness.

Show Houses and Designer Collaborations

The year began with several high-profile show houses and designer collaborations, which set the tone for a 2025 focused on intentional storytelling.

  • Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2025 – Returning to this iconic event, I photographed thoughtfully designed rooms, including Raising the Zarr, a standout space within the show house. Each area required careful attention to composition, lighting, and architectural storytelling.

  • TileBar Sponsorship at Kips Bay Dallas – Bold tile installations created editorial-worthy moments, requiring precise framing to showcase both the design and the brand partnership.

  • Whole Home Show House Austin 2025 – Capturing a full home allowed me to explore how individual rooms relate to the whole, highlighting flow, materiality, and architectural rhythm.

Working on these larger-scale projects naturally transitioned into photographing more personal interiors, where I could bring the same editorial approach to smaller, intimate spaces.

Editorial Features and High-Profile Homes

Building from show houses and personal interiors, 2025 also included editorial projects that reached national audiences. These assignments allowed me to translate a designer’s vision into imagery that resonates across print, digital, and television.

A Year Defined by Mood, Light, and Texture

Across every project - whether a show house, a nursery, or an editorial feature - 2025 reinforced that mood, light, and texture define the story of a space.

  • Mood: Thoughtful color palettes and material selections guide how a room feels in a photograph.

  • Light: Leveraging natural and ambient light preserves the atmosphere and intent of each design.

  • Texture: From tile patterns to textiles and wood finishes, materials become narrative elements in their own right.

This approach ensures that each image is intentional, allowing spaces to speak for themselves while telling a cohesive visual story.

Collaboration and Storytelling

The foundation of 2025’s work was collaboration. Designers, builders, and homeowners trusted me to translate their vision accurately and editorially. Being based in San Antonio now enhances this collaboration, offering designers faster access, flexible scheduling, and on-site support, so projects are photographed when they are most photogenic and ready for editorial, press, or portfolio use.

Delivering the Work

All projects were delivered via curated galleries, presenting interiors with editorial clarity and intentionality. These galleries not only showcase the photographer’s perspective but also support designers in portfolio updates, press submissions, and seasonal marketing campaigns.

Planning Your Next Interior Photography Project

Strong imagery works best when it’s part of a thoughtful plan - considering light, seasonality, and editorial timing. If you’re preparing upcoming projects for portfolio updates, press features, or seasonal marketing, planning ahead ensures your photography supports your design’s full potential.

Personal Interiors and Thoughtful Spaces

Beyond show houses, 2025 included projects that were deeply personal, allowing for storytelling on a different, more emotional scale.

  • A Moody, Thoughtful Nursery Designed With Intention – Rich tones, layered textures, and personal details made photographing this nursery about capturing warmth and story, not just style.

  • Raising the Zarr – While part of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, this space also functioned as a narrative-rich interior, blending architectural detail, layered textures, and thoughtful design elements into editorial images.

These projects reinforced how intimate spaces benefit from careful attention to light, texture, and mood, preparing the lens for capturing homes with both personality and depth.

Several spaces offered narrative-driven photography opportunities:

  • A bathroom and sunroom renovation, with warm wood tones and flowing color palettes, is now streaming on Magnolia Network and HBO Max.

  • A childhood friend’s kids’ room, colorful, imaginative, and meticulously detailed, featured in the Magnolia Journal Summer issue.

  • Seed + Supply flower press studio, reimagined on the Silos grounds, complete with dried blooms and botanical displays, capturing the evolution of a space into a storybook setting.

  • McDevitt Retreat Airbnb, designed by Magnolia for “Fixer Upper,” documenting creative vision in Waco, Texas.

These editorial projects naturally highlight the importance of mood, light, and texture, reinforcing techniques developed across show houses and personal interiors.
